You can only knock when you have gotten your hand to point where discarding a card will make your deadwood count be less than or equal to 10.
This is due to a special case called "undercutting". If you knock and your deadwood score is greater than or equal to your opponent's deadwood score, then your opponent has "undercut" you. This allows them to earn the points instead along with a 25 point bonus.
We assure you the game does not cheat! All shuffles and deals of cards are randomized and the computer does not have any unfair advantages. If you find the level of play to be too difficult, you can go to the settings menu off the main menu and choose an easier difficulty setting.
